American International Rattlesnake Museum

Albuquerque, NM

One of Albuquerque’s most delightfully distinctive tourist attractions, the American International Rattlesnake Museum is an entertaining facility, home to one of the world’s largest collections of live rattlesnake species. As well as learning about these venomous reptiles, visitors can see tortoises, Gila monsters, insects, and more—it’s a great choice for budding herpetologists.

The basics

Located in Old Town Albuquerque, the American International Rattlesnake Museum is a family-friendly local landmark that’s easy to visit as part of a day out in the neighborhood, or as part of a walking tour covering local sites.

Inside the museum, you’ll find several dozen species of live rattlesnakes safely housed in tanks—accompanying information outlines each one’s characteristics and habitats. In addition to the other reptiles, amphibians, and insects on display, you can also see a colorful array of rattlesnake–themed memorabilia, while Native American pottery, figurines, and other artifacts add a cultural dimension to the museum. At the end, all visitors receive a “Certificate of Bravery”.

Things to know before you go

  • The museum is accessible to wheelchair users and there is a wheelchair available to rent for free.
  • Tickets can be purchased upon arrival; members of the military, seniors, students, children, and groups receive discounted entry.
  • There is a museum gift shop stocking souvenirs.
  • Private group tours of the museum can be booked in advance for a fee.
