Orlando’s Amway Center hosts some of Florida’s biggest sporting, music, and entertainment events. Home of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, the 875,000-square-foot (81,000-square-meter arena boasts a variety of restaurants, bars, kid zones, and retail shops for visitors of all ages. With space to accommodate almost 20,000 guests, the venue serves as a major gathering place in downtown Orlando for both visitors and local residents.

The basics

The Amway Center is the successor to the Amway Arena, which closed in 2010. This newer, up-to-date arena had been built with sustainability in mind, including environmentally-friendly features such as water efficiency and energy optimization. (The center uses 20% less energy and 40% less water than similarly sized arenas.) Its scoreboard is one of the largest in the NBA, measuring about 42 feet (13 meters) high and offering an advanced high-definition display.

Things to know before you go

  • Wheelchair-accessible seats are available at locations throughout the Amway Center.
  • Assistive listening devices are available at guest assistance stations.
  • Items that are prohibited inside the center include backpacks and bags larger than 14 inches by 14 inches by six inches (35.5 centimeters by 35.5 centimeters by 15 centimeters); check the website for a more comprehensive list.

How to get there

The Amway Center is located in downtown Orlando. If you’re traveling from Tampa, take Interstate 4 East to the South Street exit (#82B) and turn left. The Geico Garage is on the left; reserved, pre-paid parking is available for purchase online. The Amway Center is also accessible via the SunRail and LYMMO bus system: it’s just a 5-minute walk from Church Street Station. The pickup and drop-off spot for ridesharing services is located at the corner of Hughey Avenue and Pine Street.

When to get there

Because the arena hosts many different types of events, admission fees and opening times vary. Check the calendar of events for more information and operating hours. The NBA regular season typically begins in late October and runs until mid-April. Doors open 90 minutes before tip-off, and on select nights visitors can take part in the center’s Fan Fest ahead of the game.

Nearby Lake Eola Park

Located not far from the Amway Center, Lake Eola and its surrounding park offer a respite from busy Orlando. Known for its iconic swan boats, as well as real swans, the park provides a touch of nature in contrast to the flashy theme parks nearby. There’s also a performance space, the Walt Disney® Amphitheater, which hosts events throughout the year.

Who plays at the Amway Center?

The Amway Center is home to the Orlando Magic basketball, Orlando Solar Bears ice hockey, and Orlando Predators football teams. It also hosts other sporting events. Additionally, a variety of pop, rock, country, hip hop, Latin, and music stars perform at the Amway Center, which is a multiuse indoor arena.

Does the Amway Center have seats?

Yes, there are seats at Amway Center. However, different games and concerts at the Amway Center have different seating configurations. There are floor and side seats for concerts, and occasionally seats behind the stage. Sports games have different seating options vs. concerts. There are premium seating options, including suites, too.

Is downtown Orlando nice?

Yes, downtown Orlando is generally considered a nice place, although like in any big city, some areas are nicer than others. It’s a pleasant place to walk around, especially around small Lake Eola, and the traffic isn’t generally heavy. There are many restaurants and bars in downtown Orlando, too.

How many people does the Amway Center in Orlando seat?

The huge Amway Center in downtown Orlando can seat up to 20,000 people. For NBA games, the seating capacity is 18,500, while for NCAA games it’s 20,000. In addition to its general seating, the Amway Center has 56 suites and 66 skyboxes, which can seat 300-plus people.

Is parking free at the Amway Center, Orlando?

No, parking is not free at Amway Center. Visitors can purchase reserved parking for GEICO Garage on West South Street either online or at the Amway Center Box Office. Tickets should be bought before 5pm on the day before the event. There’s additional nearby paid parking in downtown Orlando.

Can you take photos at the Amway Center?

Yes, you can take photos with many still, non-flash cameras in the Amway Center, with exceptions. Cameras with detachable lenses longer than 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) are prohibited from all events without media credentials. Tripods and other photography gear are also prohibited from sports events without media credentials.
