Perched on the banks of the Brunei River, the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre celebrates the country’s rich artistic heritage. While you won’t see artists at work here, you will be greeted with a huge selection of crafts that reflect the culture of Brunei. These range from wood carvings and brassware to handwoven baskets.
The basics
One of the most unique souvenirs you can buy at Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre is a keris, a ceremonial asymmetrical dagger with an engraved handle. The center is sometimes included on tours of Bandar Seri Begawan, particularly those focused on the capital’s culture and architecture. Many experiences combine the store with the opulent Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and the Royal Regalia Museum, filled with crown jewels and other treasures.

- There’s no café at the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre, but there is a restaurant nearby.
- The center accepts both cash and credit cards.
- You won’t need long to browse the crafts here; most people find that 15-30 minutes is plenty of time.
How to get there
From the center of Bandar Seri Begawan, the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre is a 20-minute walk along the banks of the Brunei River. You can also use the rideshare app Dart for a short and scenic drive.
When to get there
The Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre is open Monday–Thursday from morning to late afternoon; it’s closed Friday–Sunday. The best time to visit Brunei is from January through May, during the dry season.
