POINT OF INTEREST

Color Factory New York

New York City, NY

A uniquely vibrant and immersive experiential museum in downtown Manhattan, the Color Factory New York transports visitors of all ages to a super-saturated and multi-sensory world of color. Featuring 14 different art installations that each tell stories, inspire play, and reflect the city’s own vivid character, it’s an interactive cultural venue where you’ll connect with color in new ways.

The basics

A perfect cultural attraction for visitors of all stripes—even those New Yorkers who only wear black—the Color Factory serves up creativity, play, and inspiration in equal measure. Once inside, you’re free to make your way through the 14 installations at your own pace. Enjoy a range of sensory experiences as you go: Leap into a ball pit that celebrates the color blue, listen to music courtesy of famed NYC DJ Spinderella, and much more. Along the way, take digital photos at the museum’s hands-free stations.

Since the Color Factory often sells out, it’s best to book your tickets in advance; walk-in tickets are limited. Pay a little more for a flexible, come-at-any-time day pass, or receive a discount when you prebook a specific time slot.

Things to know before you go

  • Most installations at the Color Factory are accessible to wheelchair users, but the ball pit may be hard for visitors with limited mobility to access.
  • The museum provides special glasses for visitors who have color blindness.
  • Strollers are not permitted in the exhibition areas, owing to limited space; storage is provided upon arrival.
  • Little sweets are given out to match some of the installations.

How to get there

Color Factory New York is on Spring Street in SoHo. You can take the C or E train to Spring Street or the 1 to Houston Street, among a number of other subway options. Taxis and rideshare services offer another way to get there.

When to get there

The museum is open from morning to early evening, and it’s best to buy tickets in advance. Expect to spend 1–1.5 hours there, so it’s easy to fit in a visit as part of a full day of New York sightseeing.

Museum of Ice Cream

Haven’t gotten your fill of whimsical, interactive NYC museums? Along with the Color Factory, it’s worth booking tickets to the Museum of Ice Cream, a 10-minute walk away. Dedicated to the sweet treat, and perfect for kids and adults alike, the museum offers a range of interactive “playscapes”—and unlimited ice cream.
