POINT OF INTEREST

Comerica Park

2100 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI, 48201

The Detroit Tigers bid farewell to their Corktown stadium and relocated to Comerica Park in 2000; since then, fans have celebrated the team’s American League pennants and Central Division championships. The ballpark also draws crowds for concerts, but no matter the event, it always offers great views of the Motor City’s skyline.

The basics

Whether you see the stadium from the stands during a Tigers game, from the sky on a private helicopter ride, or from the street on a guided city tour, Comerica Park stands out. When you’re there, check out the statues of players, the carousel, and the Ferris wheel. Ballpark tours are available for a price, but ticket holders can stroll the Walk of Fame for free.

The D Shop, the official team store, is typically open even when the bases aren’t loaded, but a larger selection is available in the five retail shops open during home games. Save some money for snacks to munch on while watching the synchronized “liquid fireworks” show.

Things to know before you go

  • Splurge on the Home Plate Club tickets for climate-controlled seats.

  • The stadium is an accessible venue. Speak with staff at the main box office customer service window if more accessibility services are needed.

  • Sensory bags are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis, and a sensory room is on-site.

  • A strict bag policy may convince you to rely on pockets, wallets, and clutches.

How to get there

Comerica Park is on the northern edge of downtown Detroit. Two bicycle racks are available for cyclists, while pedestrians can walk from most parts of downtown. If you’re driving there, parking lots surround the ballpark, with the exception of the Ford Field side. Otherwise, opt for the #4 bus or QLine light rail for easy access.

When to get there

Comerica Park typically opens 90 minutes before a baseball game, so arriving early gives you an opportunity to find your seat, grab food, and maybe snag an autograph while the players warm up. For live events, arrive at least 30 minutes prior, especially for major concerts.

Root, root, root for the home team

Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings, oh my: Comerica Park isn’t the only sports venue you can visit in Detroit. The NHL Red Wings and NBA Pistons play at the Little Caesars Arena while the NFL Lions roam the gridiron at Ford Field, adjacent to Comerica Park. MLS fans aren’t left alone on the pitch, either; Detroit City FC has its matches nearby at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.
