Concord
Concord, MA, 01742
Founded in 1635, Concord is one of the oldest towns in New England, and the site of several key events surrounding the Revolutionary War. During the mid-1800s, the city was home to some of the brightest literary minds in the country, including Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott.
The basics
Most visitors explore Concord on a day trip from Boston. The city boasts numerous attractions commemorating its storied past. Highlights include the Old North Bridge, site of the Revolutionary War’s first battle; the Battle Road Trail, where Paul Revere was captured; and the Minute Man National Historical Park. Fans of American literature shouldn’t miss sights like Walden Pond, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the Concord Museum, and the homes of Emerson, Hawthorne, and Alcott.
