POINT OF INTEREST

Cumberland Park

592 S 1st St., Nashville, TN, 37213

Set along the picturesque Cumberland River waterfront, Nashville’s Cumberland Park offers visitors 6.5 acres (2.6 hectares) of outdoor fun and activities, especially for travelers with small children. You can spend an afternoon enjoying the green space and cooling off at the splash pad, or see it as part of a sightseeing tour that covers Nashville monuments and attractions.

The basics

Within Cumberland Park you’ll find areas such as The Hollow, which offers an interactive nature center, complete with a life-size maze and water features. The Gorge’s kid-sized climbing wall provides little ones with an opportunity to try out their scaling skills. And the Explorer Trail winds through open spaces, providing a respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown Nashville. There’s also a stage pavilion that hosts performances ranging from children’s productions to major music acts, so be sure to check the schedule in advance.

Things to know before you go

  • Keep in mind that there is a lack of shade at the park, so come prepared with a hat and sunscreen.

  • Bathroom facilities are located at the base of the pedestrian bridge.

  • There are a few picnic areas that are mostly shaded.

How to get there

On the east side of the Cumberland River, Cumberland Park is situated at South First Street between the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge and the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge, next to Nissan Stadium. From downtown Nashville, walk across the pedestrian bridge or grab a taxi or rideshare service. There are no public transit stops near the park.

When to get there

Cumberland Park is open daily until nighttime. You’ll experience the most pleasant weather in Nashville in May and June; the summer months can bring oppressive heat and humidity, but you can find relief during this time at the park’s sprayground. Check the website to make sure the sprayground is open, since it shuts down for events like Tennessee Titans home games and the 4th of July fireworks celebrations.

Cumberland River Greenway

The Cumberland River Greenway spans roughly 6 miles (10 kilometers) one way and follows the winding route of the Cumberland River, from the Country Music Hall of Fame north to Rhodes Park. Along the way, there are trail spurs that lead to Bicentennial Park and Morgan Park. If you cross over the pedestrian bridge, you can follow a loop that incorporates the East Bank Greenway, Cumberland Park, and Nissan Stadium.
