Dallas Farmers Market
920 S Harwood St, Dallas, TX, 75201
A food-lover's haven, the Dallas Farmers Market features not only a market site, but shops, restaurants, coffee spots, and food vendors. A place to buy local, the market sells seasonal produce either grown in Texas or within a 400-mile radius. Located in the heart of downtown, the market is spread across a number of different buildings, including the Market Building—a food hall, vendor market and restaurants—and The Shed, an outdoor, open-air pavilion, with food stalls and vendors.
The basics
While some guided sightseeing tours of Dallas pass by the market, for a true immersive experience you’ll want to explore the foodie spot on your own. Even though you might not be able to pack fresh tomatoes in your suitcase, you can still enjoy a taste of the local specialty foods and dine at one of the on-site restaurants. There’s also a mix of retail shops to browse, offering a wide range of products. Throughout the year the market hosts events like happy hours, trivia nights, and bingo.
Things to know before you go
Some vendors accept credit cards, but there is an ATM located in the market should you need cash.
Dogs on leashes are welcome in The Shed and on the Market Building patios.
The best selection of fruits, vegetables, and other fresh products are typically found earlier in the day.
How to get there
The Dallas Farmers Market is within walking distance from some major downtown attractions, including Dealey Plaza, and there are several DART bus routes that pass by. If you plan to park on site, get here early as spots can fill up fast. Rideshare services are also readily available in the city, and dockless electric scooters can be found throughout.
When to get there
The Market Building and retail shops are typically open daily from 10am-7pm, with some vendors operating different hours. The Shed is open Saturdays, 9am-5pm, and Sundays, 10am-5pm. Check the website for the latest information on upcoming events. Keep in mind that vendors sell what is able to grow in the area climate, which can be affected by weather and seasonal changes.
Other foodie spots in Dallas
Known for an eclectic mix of cuisines, Dallas offers up everything from tacos to smoky brisket. At Mariano's Hacienda, the birthplace of the frozen margarita machine, order frosty margs and fajitas; grab a corny dog at Fletcher’s with plenty of yellow mustard; and be sure to try a Frito Pie, which contains hot chili on top of Fritos corn chips, sprinkled with shredded cheese.
