Domäne Dahlem
Königin-Luise-Straße 49, Berlin, Germany, 14195
Domäne Dahlem is an open-air museum and organic farm that tells the story of 800 years of agriculture in Berlin. This working farm offers interactive experiences such as animal feedings and traditional blacksmith workshops. You can also visit regular farmers' markets and a ceramics studio, and taste organic cuisine at the on-site food store and restaurant.
The basics
Begin your visit at Domäne Dahlem's heart, the old manor house, home to a museum featuring interactive exhibits such as a holographic merchant in a 1920s butcher shop. The Culinarium, a transformed horse stable, presents the cultural history of nutrition since 1850 through engaging participatory stations. Outside, explore fields with free-roaming pigs, sheep, horses, and chickens, where children can enjoy animal feeding and tractor rides. Workshops showcase crafts such as pottery, ceramics, furniture restoration, gilding, and textile arts.
Things to know before you go
The family-friendly farm offers special tours and workshops for children and young people.
The onsite café offers organic homemade treats and seasonal specials.
Admission fees apply to visit the indoor museum collections; donations are appreciated if only visiting the outdoor spaces.
There is usually free museum admission every first Sunday of the month.
There are picnic tables outside but barbecues aren’t permitted, and visitors are required to dispose of all rubbish.
How to get there
The easiest way to get to the museum is to get the U-Bahn U3 line from U Spicherstrasse in Berlin to Dahlem-Dorf station—this location is directly in front of the manor house. Alternatively, you can get bus #110, M11, or X83 which also stops nearby, providing easy access to the farm entrance.
When to get there
The farm is open year-round, but the opening schedule can vary depending on the season, so it's a good idea to check in advance. Saturdays are a good day to visit as there’s usually an organic farmers’ market from morning until early afternoon. Also, if visiting during the first three weekends of Advent, there’s usually a Christmas market with live music, festive food, and workshops for children.
What to eat at Domäne Dahlem
Domäne Dahlem has a restaurant (Landgasthaus) with a regularly changing menu featuring seasonal dishes made with 100% organic home-grown ingredients. Enjoy breakfast plates featuring meats, cheeses, bread, and eggs, or savor salads and lunch specialties with fresh meat and vegetables. For a more casual weekend bite, look out for the on-site organic bratwurst grill truck, which offers a convenient and tasty alternative to a sit-down meal.
