Düppel Historic Village is an open-air museum in Berlin that recreates life in the Middle Ages. Situated on the site of an 800-year-old village, you can explore reconstructed homes, workshops, and granaries while watching demonstrations of medieval crafts such as blacksmithing. It’s also home to rare and endangered species such as the rare Skudden sheep and the Düppel grazing pig.

Continue with a leisurely walk around the reconstructed medieval homes. These structures offer a first-hand glimpse into 800-year-old domestic life. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to watch artisans demonstrating medieval crafts and traditions, such as woodturning, blacksmithing, bronze casting, and weaving.

  • The museum grounds are wheelchair-accessible and there are two marked parking spaces near the entrance for travelers with disabilities.

  • Parking spaces are limited so it’s best to arrive by public transport.

  • There is an on-site museum shop where you can buy souvenirs.

  • Children and young people up to 18 years old can typically enter free of charge.

  • On the first Sunday of the month during the opening season, museum admission is typically free for all.

How to get there

It’s best to travel by public transport to get to Düppel Historic Village. The nearest bus stop is stop is Ludwigsfelder Strasse, which is around a 5-minute walk away and is served by #115 or N12 buses. Alternatively, if taking a taxi or driving, it’s around a 30-minute drive from Berlin Central Station to the museum, traveling on the A115.

When to get there

The museum operates seasonally and it’s usually open during the Easter period from late March through April, and again in the Fall from late October to early November. It's wise to plan and check the latest opening hours, as the schedule can change. Sundays are an ideal time to visit, as the museum often hosts craft-making demonstrations, including pottery and basket weaving.
