El Cortez Hotel & Casino
600 E Fremont St, Las Vegas, NV, 89101
In downtown Las Vegas, the El Cortez Hotel & Casino is one of the oldest and the longest continuously running casinos in Sin City. In operation since 1941, the El Cortez is the only existing casino on the National Register of Historic Places, and offers slots, table games, sportsbook, and high-limits action.
The basics
The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is ideal for visitors looking for a vintage gaming experience. There are coin- and ticket-operated slot machines, including penny and nickel slots, standard Las Vegas games such as blackjack, poker, and roulette, and racing and sports betting. Several restaurants, bars, and lounges are on-site as well. Guests also have a choice of hotel room options, including original rooms from 1941. Along with visiting on your own, you can go as part of a walking tour or themed tour of downtown Las Vegas.
Things to know before you go
The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is a must for visitors looking for an old-time Vegas experience.
Photos and videos are permitted, but must not include people without their prior approval; casino management must also be notified ahead of time. Walk-through filming is not permitted.
Guests must be 21 and over to check into the hotel.
How to get there
The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is located at the intersection of Fremont Street and N. 6th Street in downtown Las Vegas. If you’re driving, take Route 95 or Interstate 15, with free garage parking available for hotel guests. The Deuce bus stops nearby on Fremont Street. Some walking tours of downtown Las Vegas also stop here.
When to get there
The El Cortez is open 24 hours a day. For a quieter experience, visit during the week and avoid weekends and holidays. Las Vegas is most pleasant in the spring or fall, weather-wise, though the casino is an ideal place to escape the heat on summer days. Check the calendar to see when special promotions are taking place.
Fremont East Entertainment District
Next to the Fremont Street Experience, from Las Vegas Boulevard to 8th Street, the Fremont East Entertainment District offers a good balance of old-school and modern Las Vegas. Established in 2002, the area is home to a mix of restaurants and shops, as well as the Downtown Container Park and the Neon Museum, and is the main nightlife destination in downtown Las Vegas. The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is one of just two casinos in Fremont East.
