POINT OF INTEREST

Empower Field at Mile High

1701 Bryant St., Denver, CO, 80204

Home of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, Empower Field at Mile High is renowned for its vibrant game-day atmosphere and Rocky Mountain backdrop. Opened in 2001, the stadium seats 76,000 fans, offers state-of-the-art amenities, and also hosts concerts and cultural events in addition to football games.

The basics

The name Empower Field at Mile High, in addition to nodding at its elevation, honors the past: The Broncos’ previous arena was named Mile High Stadium. For visitors, Broncos games are notoriously difficult to attend—home games have been sold out since 1970. (You read that right—1970.) The arena also fills up for other events, from motocross competitions to rock concerts, but you may have a better chance at tickets. Stadium tours are also an option—they run 75 to 90 minutes long and are offered throughout the year, going behind the scenes to the executive suite, the visitors’ locker room, and more.

Things to know before you go

  • For game days, any bag no larger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches (11 x 16.5 centimeters) is allowed in; clear bags no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 (30 x 15 x 30 centimeters) are also allowed.
  • Policies and amenities vary by event, so check your tickets beforehand to avoid any mishaps.
  • Tours can be booked through the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, an on-site museum.

How to get there

Unless you have a coveted stadium parking pass, the best way to get to Empower Field at Mile High is via the city’s light rail—the stadium has its own dedicated light rail station. In general, parking and traffic are headaches on event days; if you don’t want to take the light rail, opt for a taxi or rideshare.

When to get there

Get to Empower Field at Mile High well before your event. For game days, that could be up to several hours, if you want to take in the tailgating atmosphere and scope out the “food neighborhoods.” Regardless of the event, leave plenty of time for parking, getting around, and finding your seat among 75,000 people.

Behind the scenes

If you nab a stadium tour, get ready for all things Broncos (except their locker room, unfortunately). With a guide, you’ll wander through the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum, the executive suite, the various clubs, the visiting locker room, the keg room, the television production area, and the press center. All in all, it’s a half-mile journey through Mile High.
