Florida Repertory Theatre
2268 Bay St, Fort Myers, FL, 33901
In the Fort Myers River District, the Florida Repertory Theatre has made a name for itself over the last three decades. Once a vaudeville house and cinema, the former Arcade Theatre is now home to two stages: the historic, orchestra-style venue and a contemporary blackbox space. Dramas, musicals, comedy sets, and more fill the event schedule.
The basics
Florida Rep is a hot spot for culture-seekers in Southwest Florida. Walking tours pass by it, but the best way to experience it is to catch a show. See a production in the restored Arcade Theatre, or be part of a more intimate audience at the ArtStage Studio Theatre, which seats up to 120 guests. The venue also has backstage tours by request, and hosts programs and festivals designed to nurture emerging talent.
Things to know before you go
Come thirsty for the full lobby bar, and plan a pre-show dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Put the kids to bed; the Comedy Zone shows are recommended for ages 16-plus.
Audio-described and signed performances are available on select show dates.
How to get there
The Florida Repertory Theatre is in the Fort Myers River District, a block away from First Street, where buses 500 and 505 stop. If you have theater tickets, the free parking lot for guests opens two hours prior to the show’s curtain. Otherwise, park in a paid parking garage or free evening street spot around the city.
When to get there
Since the free parking lot opens two hours prior to showtime, it’s worth arriving early to nab a space and explore the River District’s shops and restaurants before the performance. If you’d like to take a backstage tour, contact the theater to arrange one in advance.
More culture in the Fort Myers River District
The Florida Repertory Theatre is a block away from the Historic Fort Myers Riverfront and has an array of colorful neighbors. The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center’s galleries are just around the corner, and you’ll find the annual winter ArtFest nearby as well. For more live performances, enjoy a breezy stroll to the Caloosa Sound Amphitheater at the riverfront Centennial Park.
