The basics

The best way to experience the Chaffee Zoo in Fresno is to go on your own time and carve out an entire day for exploring and learning. If you want to get even more out of your visit, the zoo also offers early-bird tours and behind-the-scenes tours. You can also add on experiences by upgrading your regular admission ticket to an admission ticket plus when booking.

Things to know before you go

• You can bring food inside the Chaffee Zoo, but there are also places to purchase food on-site.

• Families will be happy to know admission is free for children 1 and under, and discounted for children 2–11.

• Don’t miss the Winged Wonders Bird Show, which happens daily if the weather permits—the show’s included with your ticket.

• Kids love the dino digging area at the Children’s Nature Play Zone, with all tools provided at the dig site.

How to get there

The Chaffee Zoo is a 6-minute drive from downtown Fresno, which is where most visitors stay. First, hop on CA-99 N from Fresno Street, then take exit 134 for Belmont Avenue, and turn right on Belmont. Next, turn left on North Butler Avenue and then left on South Belmont Avenue—the zoo will be on the right-hand side.

When to get there

To avoid the crowds, visit the zoo on a weekday instead of a weekend, if possible. If you’re there during hot weather, aim for a cooler morning or late afternoon visit. The holiday season can also be a fun time at the zoo, with special light displays at night.

Enjoy the Fresno County Blossom Trail

If you’re in Fresno anytime from May through early fall, check out the city’s blossom trail. The orchards along the trail, which you can catch in bloom during this time, look stunning and make for great photos. Afterwards, head to Simonian Farms on Clovis Avenue to stock up on locally made treats such as jams and jellies.
