Historic Fourth Ward Park
680 Dallas St. NE, Old Fourth Ward, Atlanta, GA, 30308
Located on the site of a former amusement park, Historic Fourth Ward Park is part of Atlanta’s pioneering BeltLine, a former railway turned into public trails and green spaces. Built in 2011, the park is a model of green engineering and also serves up attractions from ponds and fountains to walking trails, amphitheaters, and more.
The basics
Recently revitalized and now one of Atlanta’s highlight green spaces, Historic Fourth Ward Park represents green engineering in action. Spanning 17 acres (7 hectares), the park offers wide-ranging entertainment and attractions throughout the year. Enjoy a contemplative stroll around its pond and admire its fountains and waterfall features, head to its skate park with your board in tow, attend events at its amphitheater, introduce kids to its enormous playscape area, and otherwise enjoy its urban-oasis effect.
There are all kinds of ways to discover Historic Fourth Ward Park. For a drive-by visit, book a tour of the city by electric car, and look forward to seeing other Atlanta highlights like the World of Coca-Cola Museum and Centennial Olympic Park as you go. Alternatively, explore by Segway tour for a fun and speedy way to see the Historic Fourth Ward, Inman Park, Downtown, and the BeltLine.
Things to know before you go
- Need to cool off? Kids can take advantage of the park’s splash pad during Atlanta’s hot summer months.
- The park is accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, and the entire park is ADA compliant.
- Its skate park—the city’s first, and unveiled by Tony Hawk—offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections; safety gear is recommended.
How to get there
The park is located in Atlanta’s Historic Fourth Ward neighborhood, just northeast of Downtown. It is situated just off the BeltLine Eastside Trail, which makes it easy to travel by foot, bike, or electric scooter. Alternatively, take the Red and Gold MARTA lines from Downtown to North Avenue Station, after which you can transfer to a bus; it’s less than a 10-minute drive from Downtown, too.
When to get there
Historic Fourth Ward Park is open daily from 6am–11pm. Its splash pad area is open from May 1–October 1, from 10am–8pm. The park also hosts events throughout the year, from fitness classes to the Old Fourth Ward Park Arts Festival, held every October, so be sure to check its calendar before your visit.
Neighborhood Highlights
Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta’s Fourth Ward, and today the vibrant neighborhood offers a mix of historical and cultural highlights. Visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site to learn about the Civil Rights giant, or visit the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Another highlight is the Ponce City Market, which occupies a renovated Sears factory and boasts a food hall, a rooftop recreation area, and more.
