POINT OF INTEREST

Industry City

Brooklyn, New York City

Variously referred to as a creative hub, an ecosystem, or a campus, Brooklyn’s Industry City is a large multi-use complex that contains offices, restaurants, event spaces, pop-up shops, permanent retailers, and more. Hundreds of businesses, and thousands of people, work here. Travelers can dine, drink, and shop, as well as enjoy the outdoor spaces, see art installations, or attend an event.

The basics

Brooklyn is a hub of creativity and innovation, but to avoid traipsing all over the borough to find it, hone in on Industry City. You could spend hours here, exploring the diverse spaces throughout the repurposed early-20th-century building.

Many travelers explore Industry City independently, casually browsing the public spaces. You can also take guided behind-the-scenes tours that focus on visiting the workshops and showrooms of the artists and makers based here. Alternatively, join a workshop or class on topics as diverse as whiskey tasting and painting. Cycle tours of Brooklyn also sometimes pass Industry City.

Things to know before you go

  • There’s no fee to enter Industry City but specific attractions or events may be ticketed.
  • Industry City is dog-friendly, although individual businesses may have their own policies.
  • Love Japanese food? Don’t miss the Japanese food hall, the largest in New York City.

How to get there

Industry City is located in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood, between the large Green-Wood Cemetery and the waterfront. The 36th Street subway station is just a block away, served by the D, N, and R trains. If you are self-driving, find free parking on 3rd Avenue or paid parking in Industry City’s parking lot.

When to get there

The different retailers and businesses within Industry City operate their own hours, but the building is open from 9am until 9pm. Events are often held here, including seasonal parties and festivals, so check the website to see what’s happening during your visit. An ice rink is set up in winter. If you’re traveling with kids, there’s often family-friendly events on weekends.

The Collision Project

The Collision Project, an art project housed at Industry City, uses the built environment as an artistic canvas, and nurtures the concept of art as an experience, rather than just an object. The aim is to make art more playful and accessible to all. The project’s art works are located in both indoor and outdoor spaces throughout Industry City, so look out for them as you wander around.
