Keswick Vineyards
1575 Keswick Winery Drive, Keswick, Virginia, VA, 22947
Located in the heart of Virginia Wine Country, near Charlottesville, the family-owned Keswick Vineyards has drawn connoisseurs with its award-winning wines for over 20 years. After planting its first vines in 1999, the winery now produces red, white, and rosé wines (as well as limited-edition sparkling and dessert wine releases), which visitors can savor in its tasting room.
The basics
Virginia may not be the first US state visitors associate with wine production—but these days, it’s a serious destination for oenophiles. Now home to more than 300 wineries spread across 10 distinct regions and eight AVAs (American Viticultural Areas—the US equivalent of appellations), the state is a must-sip with real vinous diversity, whether you prefer Bordeaux blends, Loire varietals like cabernet franc, or locally born hybrids like the Norton grape.
If you’re planning a tasting tour, don’t miss Keswick Vineyards, which exemplifies the best of the region and is conveniently located on both the Monticello Wine Trail and the Route 231 Trail. Its tasting room offers tutored tastings for drinkers who want to learn more and build your own-flight options.
Things to know before you go
The winery’s outdoor tasting area is family-friendly and includes a minigolf course.
You can bring your pet; the winery maintains an on-site dog park.
A food truck serves lunch bites from Wednesday to Sunday, and cheese and cracker platters are available in the tasting room.
How to get there
Keswick Vineyards is located at 575 Keswick Winery Drive in Keswick, Virginia. The winery is just 13 miles (21 kilometers) northeast of Charlottesville, making it less than 30 minutes away by car, and it’s also roughly 1 hour from Richmond and 2 hours from Washington DC. If you plan to visit without a designated driver, you’re advised to travel by taxi or guided tour so you can focus on enjoyment.
When to get there
Keswick Vineyards’ tasting room is open daily, from morning until early evening. It is closed annually on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Saturdays are the most popular time to visit, and the winery offers live music performances throughout the year.
Monticello Wine Trail
Want to explore Virginia Wine Country but need help figuring out where to start? The Monticello Wine Trail—which encompasses roughly 30 wineries and is within easy distance of Charlottesville—is a convenient place to begin. In addition to its highlight producers, the region also encompasses several top landmarks (like Monticello—Thomas Jefferson’s former estate—and Shenandoah National Park).
