Meux Home Museum
1007 R St, Fresno, CA, 93721
Step back in time at the Meux Home Museum, which showcases what life was like in the 1800s for the wealthy. This Fresno historical mansion once belonged to a Civil War–era surgeon and his family, and it features original, Victorian-style decor and furnishings throughout.
The basics
The Meux Home Museum is best seen by joining a guided tour, which are run by the museum when it’s open. Tours typically last around 45 minutes and cover the building’s architecture, visit its 16 rooms, and offer information on the Meux family. If you’re not able to join a tour, you can see the museum’s exterior by joining a Fresno walking tour that passes the house.
Things to know before you go
Call ahead to check when tours are available, as the museum is only open three hours a day, three days a week.
If you’re planning to visit in a group of more than 10, call ahead to make sure the museum can accommodate your group.
Families should not bring infants or toddlers to this attraction, but older kids interested in history are fine to tag along.
How to get there
The Meux Home Museum is located in Downtown Fresno and is easy to reach by car: start by heading east on Fresno Street, and then turn right on R Street. Free parking can be found right near the attraction for easy access.
When to get there
The Meux House Museum is currently only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. If you’re looking for the least crowded day for a visit, try avoiding the weekends and go on a Friday instead. Keep in mind that this attraction is only open three hours a day, usually from 12pm–3pm, so plan accordingly.
The Kearney Mansion Museum
Just down the way—about a 15-minute drive through Fresno—lies the Kearney Mansion Museum. Ideal for those who love history, this other historical mansion is from the 1900s. It was created in French Renaissance style by the self-made land developer Martin Theodore Kearney and features a home, servant's quarters, and farm grounds.
