New York Aquarium
602 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY, 11224
By the Atlantic Ocean in Brooklyn’s Coney Island, the New York Aquarium showcases more than 500 species, including sharks, sea lions, and colorful fish. View interactive exhibits like the "Ocean Wonders: Sharks!" and watch live animal shows, while also supporting the aquarium’s conservation efforts. Its family-friendly atmosphere makes it a must-visit for marine life enthusiasts of all ages.
The basics
Visitors to the New York Aquarium can explore its exhibits at their own pace or enhance their experience with guided tours and special programs. Options include behind-the-scenes tours on select dates, as well as animal encounters with sea lions or penguins. Plus, educational programs for children and adults provide insight into marine conservation. The "Aquatheater" features daily sea lion performances, and at the “PlayQuarium,” kids can learn more about ocean wildlife through interactive elements.

How to get there
To get to the New York Aquarium, you can take the subway or bus. By subway, hop on the D, F, N, or Q train to the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station or the West 8th Street station. From both stops, it's a short walk to the aquarium, which is on the boardwalk. You can also take the B36 bus to Surf Avenue and West 8th Street. It’s best to avoid driving, especially during the busy summer season.
When to get there
The aquarium is open daily, closing slightly earlier from late fall through the winter. Check the website to find out which exhibits are open on the day you’re visiting, and to book tickets in advance. Admission is slightly cheaper during off-peak hours Monday-Friday; it’s free after 3pm on Wednesday, but note that timed tickets are required.
Prospect Park Zoo
Another family-friendly attraction in Brooklyn, the Prospect Park Zoo is home to more than 150 species of animals including sea lions, red pandas, and small primates.
