Old Florida Museum
259 San Marco Ave., St. Augustine, St Augustine, FL, 34084
For more than 25 years, the Old Florida Museum has invited children and adults alike to discover what Florida living was like from when the first colonial settlers arrived to the turn of the 20th century. Offering interactive activities and costumed guides, the Old Florida Museum sits on a 400-acre pioneer homestead property.
The basics
Although the Old Florida Museum is now significantly farther from the historic St. Augustine location, its new site within the Florida Agricultural Museum grounds offers visitors more educational entertainment. Eleven historical buildings, trail rides, cowboy exhibits, wagon rides, and animal tours create an immersive farm experience. The farm can be reserved as a wedding and events venue and hosts private tours for students, so call before your visit to check operating hours.
Things to know before you go
Unlike the previous Old Florida Museum, self-guided tours are not available.
Horseback riding lessons and Flatwoods Forest School sessions are available, but you must call ahead to reserve your space.
A gift shop is on-site, but there are no cafes or restaurants.
How to get there
The Old Florida Museum is located at 7900 North Old Kings Road in Palm Coast, nearly 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. The easiest way to get there is by car, following Highway US 1 south from St. Augustine. There is no public transportation nearby, but rideshares are available.
When to get there
Open only on the weekends between late morning and early evening, the Old Florida Museum’s limited operating hours should encourage you to get there early. The hands-on activities and live demonstrations can quickly fill 2 to 3 hours, no matter if your group is full of adults or children. Since hours are primarily mid-day, consider visiting in winter when the heat and sun exposure won’t be as high.
See what student life was like in the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse
After immersing yourself in the costumes and customs of life in St. Augustine between the 16th and 18th centuries, get a lesson in history at the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse. Located in the historic center of St. Augustine on George Street, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse predates 1716 and is the oldest wooden school building in the country. The landmark museum and gardens offer a self-guided experience where you’ll learn about life and school in the 1800s.
