Pitt Street Bridge
100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464
A former trolley bridge turned waterfront park, the Pitt Street Bridge combines Lowcountry views with a dose of local history. Come to take a walk, kayak, bird-watch, and snap photos of the surrounding marshes and Charleston Harbor. The park is especially popular at sunset when you can catch uninterrupted views of pink skies stretching out to the horizon. Note: Pitt Street Bridge is currently closed but is due to reopen in spring 2025.
The basics
Stroll down the Pitt Street Bridge, and you’ll quickly see why views of Fort Sumter, Sullivan’s Island, and winding marshes make this park such a popular destination. If you enjoy fishing, head to the end of the pier to cast your line and reel in local favorites, including trout and blue crab. Alternatively, go to the kayak launch to see the park from the creeks below. While you can visit Pitt Street Bridge on your own, guided tours are available to help you learn more about its pre-Revolutionary history and see how it connects to more of Charleston’s waterfront attractions.

How to get there
The Pitt Street Bridge is roughly a 15-minute drive from downtown Charleston in Mount Pleasant and is most easily accessed by car. The closest bus stop is Mill Street on the 41 line, which is about a 35-minute walk from the park. Biking is not recommended due to limited bike paths along a major boulevard.
When to get there
The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset and often gets crowded in the evenings. If you’re coming to watch the sunset, plan to arrive at least an hour early so you have time to find parking. It’s best to visit in the early morning or evening to avoid mid-afternoon heat if visiting in the summer months, as the park offers limited shade.
A bridge to the past
Today’s Pitt Street Bridge isn’t the first structure to stand at this site. Before the Revolutionary War, a makeshift bridge comprised of barrels and planks connected Mount Pleasant to Sullivan’s Island. In 1898, a trolley bridge was built in the same spot, which was then replaced by a vehicle bridge in 1927. That bridge was dismantled in 1945 and the remnants were finally turned into the park you can enjoy today.
