PNC Park
115 Federal St, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, Estados Unidos, Pittsburgh, PA, 15212
With nearly 40,000 fans clamoring in the stands, PNC Park—home to the Pittsburgh Pirates—should be a mega-stadium, but the highest seat is just 88 feet (27 meters) from the field. And with views to downtown Pittsburgh, plus an endless supply of Primanti Bros. sandwiches, it’s easy to spend a day at the ballpark.
The basics
Pittsburgh’s PNC Park was one of the country’s first two-deck ballparks—a structure that creates great sightlines and keeps all seats closer to the field. Constructed in 2001, it’s the Pirates’ fifth stadium, situated on the city’s North Shore (of the Allegheny River). Beyond the roughly April–October baseball season, the stadium is open for tours, which include a walk through the bullpens and areas such as Pop’s Plaza, the Luxury Suites, and Press Box.
PNC Park also makes an appearance on many Pittsburgh sightseeing tours, as it’s one of the largest sports venues in this hardcore sports town. Combine it with a stop at the nearly next-door Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and sports fans will be in hog heaven.
Things to know before you go
- Gates open 1–2 hours before games, depending on the day.
- Bags must be soft-sided and 16 x 16 x 8 inches (40 x 20 x 20 centimeters) or smaller.
- Unlike most stadiums, it allows guests to bring in bottled water and food.
- The stadium is completely cashless, so bring your cards—there’s even a “reverse ATM” on-site.
How to get there
If you’re driving, arrive as early as possible. Nine Pittsburgh Parking Authority garages are located in this area, and from there, you can ride the free "T" service to the stadium. If you can ditch the car entirely, do so—between rideshares, the light rail, buses, and walking, baseball fans have options.
When to get there
If you’re driving in, you’ll want to have extra time in case parking is an issue (and don’t forget to leave time for walking or waiting for the “T” service). Otherwise, gates typically open around 1.5 hours before games—check your game-day schedule for details. For tours, arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.
North Shore highlights
Pittsburgh’s North Shore is a treasure trove of cultural attractions. Before your Pirates’ game, consider arriving early and seeing the sights—the Andy Warhol Museum, the Museum of Illusions, the Carnegie Science Center, the USS Requin, the National Aviary, and, of course, the Allegheny River waterfront give you a lot of choices.
