Sugar Sand Park

The basics

Sugar Sand Park is an excellent public park in Boca Raton that is free to enter. You can spend hours picnicking under the sun, wandering the two nature trails, and exploring the hands-on inclusive Science Playground with a splash pad. More than just a greenspace with playgrounds and sports fields, Sugar Sand Park’s most popular draws are the Children’s Science Explorium, Willow Theatre, and The Field House, all of which require admission.

• All classes, programs, leagues, and special events are subject to fees for visitors and residents.

• The Children’s Science Explorium is free and designed for children aged 5–12.

• There are multiple inclusive programs and activities for children with special needs.

How to get there

Sugar Sand Park is at 300 S. Military Trail in Boca Raton. It’s accessible via an Interstate 95 exit at the park and from the Boca Raton beaches by taking Palmetto Park Road west to the park. PalmTran Bus 92 stops at Sugar Sand Park. There is one large parking lot for visitors near the playground and community center and two parking lots near the baseball fields.

When to get there

Sugar Sands Park is open most of the day, but individual amenities have separate operating hours. For outdoor activities, prepare for strong sunlight if visiting in the afternoons, especially during summer. Arrive one hour before showtime for Willow Theatre. For special events, the community center, and the Science Explorium, arrive early to secure parking in the closest lot.

Keep the fun going at Boomers

The fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. Boomers is a family-friendly entertainment center a 5-minute drive from Sugar Sand Park. Located near the FAU campus and Boca Raton Airport, Boomers has an arcade, go-karts, mini golf, bumper boats, laser tag, batting cages, and bumper cars. Food is available on-site and its operating hours are long enough to keep the kids laughing until bedtime.
