Tenth Ward Distilling Company
55 E Patrick St, Frederick, MD, 21701
Located in the heart of downtown Frederick, just north of Carroll Creek Park, Tenth Ward Distilling Company is known for its unconventional spirits. Flagship products include absinthe, smoked bourbon, seasonal liqueurs, and canned cocktails, while all whiskey is distilled in-house with grain that comes straight from local Maryland farms. The Cocktail Bar and Tasting Room hosts regular events, including live music.
The basics
The female-owned Tenth Ward Distilling Company welcomes guests to its Cocktail Bar and Tasting Room, where you can choose from a menu of its spirits and cocktails. Signature drinks include raspberry gimlets, a smoked old-fashioned, and jalapeño margaritas, while there are non-alcoholic drinks available, too. Opt for a guided tasting for the ultimate immersion, or visit when there’s live music taking place for a great atmosphere. The distillery also features on some self-guided tours of Baltimore, including those that explore the best stops for whiskey tasting.
Things to know before you go
While Tenth Ward doesn’t serve food, distillery patrons can order meals to their table from Maxwell’s, a burger shop next door. You can also bring your own snacks.
The distillery offers a monthly membership option for spirits aficionados.
Tenth Ward sells its products throughout Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and more. Check the website for a full list of retail locations.

Most downtown attractions are within walking distance, as well as Frederick’s restaurant and bar scene.
When to get there
Tenth Ward is open year-round. Come on Wednesdays for happy hour discounts, Thursday evenings typically have live jazz performances, and Fridays feature regular weekly concerts. Guided tastings tend to be offered at least once weekly throughout the year; check upcoming dates and reserve your spot on the Third Ward website.
Where to experience Frederick’s top-notch gastronomy
You might picture sedate colonial mansions and Civil War battlefields when you think of Frederick, but make no mistake, this picturesque Maryland town boasts a first-rate food and drink scene. Head to The Tasting Room for a New American menu and fusion-inspired offerings, while JoJo’s Restaurant and Tap House is known for craft beer and upscale bistro eats—don’t miss the lavender crème brulée.
