The Alchemist Brewery
100 Cottage Club Rd, Stowe, VT, 05672
The Alchemist Brewery calls a town known for its skiing and beer culture home. The family-owned Alchemist Brewery specializes in fresh, unfiltered IPAs. With spaces for beer lovers inside the brewery and on its grounds, and almost daily tours, a visit to this Vermont favorite is a must.
The basics
The Alchemist Brewery in Vermont is free to enter. However, if you plan to take a brewery tour, you can prebook online to secure your spot. Once you visit the brewery, there’s a lot to take in. The indoor area offers walk-in seating at the beer café, where you can order IPAs. There is also a patio and outdoor area if you don’t feel like staying inside on a nice day.
If you’ve reserved a brewery tour, follow a guide through the brewery back rooms where the IPAs are processed and learn about how beer is made at the Alchemist Brewery. Each tour includes a commemorative, take-home tasting glass and a beer. The tour price is donated directly to a foundation helping local youth, giving back to this Vermont community.
Things to know before you go
Because this is a true favorite among visitors and Vermonters, plan for more time in case it’s busy during your visit.
Also, check the brewery’s event calendar before you go in case you want to see live music.
With your visit, you’re supporting a certified B corporation—they work hard to be environmentally conscious—and that’s pretty impressive for a brewery.
There isn’t a restaurant at the Alchemist Brewery, but on most days there is a food truck.
How to get there
Getting to the Alchemist Brewery from the main area of Stowe, which is where many visitors stay, is super easy with a car. The ride from there is five minutes. First, head north when you hop on VT-108 N toward Mountain Road. Then, after about two miles (3.2 kilometers), turn right onto Cottage Club Road and the brewery will be on your right.
When to get there
The best time to visit the Alchemist Brewery in Stowe is right when it opens—at 11am or in the late afternoon and early evening before it closes at 6pm. Unless it’s a day when the brewery showcases live music, the busiest time at the brewery will be in the afternoon from around noon until 4pm.
Go skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort
With snow days beginning in October and ending in May, Vermont (especially Stowe) is known for its beautiful skiing and snowboarding areas. If you’re a winter sports enthusiast, you won’t want to miss out on some time at Stowe Mountain Resort. Plus, the resort is just about a 7-minute drive from the Alchemist Brewery, so they’re in the same neighborhood.
