The Egg appears to float above downtown Albany’s Empire State Plaza. A unique egg-like concrete bowl that sits beside a reflecting pool, it’s one of the city’s premier performing arts venues, comprising of two theaters. Here, you can see a variety of performances, including concerts, dance, film, musical theater, and more.
The basics
Head to Empire State Plaza to admire views of The Egg, or book tickets for a live performance; its calendar typically includes everything from music to dance, comedy, cabaret, film, and theater. Tickets can be bought either via The Egg’s website or at its box office, located on the concourse level. Inside are two theaters—the Kitty Carlisle Hart Theatre and Lewis A. Swyer Theatre—both of which offer great acoustics and lighting, while all seats enjoy unobstructed sightlines. Over the summer, performances are also held on an outdoor stage.

Outside food and drinks are not permitted, but refreshments are available for purchase.
Both theaters are fully accessible to wheelchair users.
The use of cameras and recording equipment during performances is not permitted.
How to get there
The Egg is located at Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany. There is paid parking available at a lot beneath The Egg, from where you take an elevator up into the venue. If arriving by train into Albany-Rensselaer station, take the 214 bus to the Empire State Plaza Concourse stop—the journey is around 10 minutes—or hail a cab for the 5-minute drive.
When to get there
The Egg hosts performances year-round; check its website for the latest schedule. The box office is typically open Monday through Friday from 11am to 3pm, and opens on Saturdays and Sundays if a performance is taking place. Doors usually open 30 minutes before curtain, while the box office closes 30 minutes after a performance has started.

The Egg may be one of the most distinctive venues in Albany, but there are plenty of other destinations where you can see live shows and performing arts. Head to the historic Palace Theatre for movies, concerts, plays, and comedy shows; watch performances outdoors at the Park Playhouse in Washington Park; or catch a sports game or large concert at the MVP Arena.
