The Guenther House

The Guenther House is the historic residence of Carl Hilmar Guenther, founder of Pioneer Flour Mills. You can tour the beautiful limestone building and see its Victorian furnishings, visit the museum’s collection of antique bakeware and home goods, shop for milled and other gourmet goods, and dine at the restaurant, which serves homestyle American and Tex-Mex fare for breakfast, brunch, and lunch.
The basics
The Guenther House is located in San Antonio's King William neighborhood, just off the San Antonio River and next to the Pioneer Flour Mills, still in operation. Built in 1859 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the restored building is atmospheric and charming, and at the restaurant you can dine on the very Pioneer products that afforded the luxurious lifestyle you see. An on-site gift shop offers restaurant mixes and products to go.
Things to know before you go
The restaurant only takes customers on a walk-in basis, no reservations or call-ahead seating is available.
Breakfast is served all day, from early morning to early afternoon.

If the Guenther Street parking lot is full, look for parking at a second large lot located off South Alamo Street.
How to get there
Located in the heart of San Antonio at 205 East Guenther Street, the Guenther House is centrally located and easily accessible by car from I-35, I-37, I-10, and I-90. Parking is available at two lots, one located on Guenther Street and the other on South Alamo, just south of the river bridge.
When to get there
The Guenther House is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but open every other day from early morning to early afternoon. Arrive ahead of time for important gatherings, as a no-reservation policy can mean there may be a wait. Holidays are a particularly popular time, when the house is decorated seasonally.
The San Antonio River Mill Store
For many, the gift shop at the Guenther House is a destination in itself. The San Antonio River Mill store carries many of the items you can order off the Guenther House Restaurant menu, including pancake and biscuit mixes, preserves and jams, and the Founder’s Choice coffee roasted just for the Guenther House. The San Antonio River Mill branded products are only available for purchase at the Guenther House. Kitchenware and bakeware also are available.
