Tycho Brahe Planetarium
Gammel Kongevej 10, Copenhagen, Denmark, 1610
Learn about the stars above at Copenhagen’s aptly named Planetarium (formerly the Tycho Brahe Planetarium). Since 1989, this science museum and Imax theater has been educating visitors about the cosmos through exhibits, films, and the occasional lecture.
The basics
Planetarium's main draw is The Dome, where you can see larger-than-life films about everything from volcanoes to the mysteries of space and the ocean. Other features include exhibits focusing on topics ranging from the Big Bang to moon rocks. Admission to the Planetarium is included with some attraction passes, such as the Copenhagen Card, and hop-on, hop-off buses stop nearby.
Things to know before you go
Films are in Danish, but headsets are provided for guests who need English-language narration.
The planetarium is wheelchair-accessible, with accessible toilets and a large elevator.
Planetarium's Restaurant Gemini offers snacks and sandwiches with views out over Sct. Jørgens Lake.
The Planetarium shop sells books, toys, and science-related kits for all ages.
How to get there
The planetarium is located in the heart of the city, a few minutes’ walk from Central Station, Vesterport Station, the Tivoli Gardens, and City Hall Square (Radhuspladsen). Bus numbers 9A and 31 stop nearby, as do hop-on, hop-off buses. Parking is available nearby, but it's generally easy to leave your car behind and come on a tour or rely on public transit instead.
When to get there
Planetarium is open daily, with extended hours on Fridays and shorter hours on Mondays. Opening hours sometimes change when there are special events, so check the website for up-to-date info on opening times and details about film screenings and other unique experiences. Additional programming for children and adults occurs on school holidays and some weekends.
Experiencing the Tivoli Gardens
While the Planetarium is a delight for kids and adults alike, so is the nearby Tivoli Gardens, a charming, vintage amusement park filled with various rides and attractions. You can take in city sights from a hot-air balloon Ferris wheel, get your thrills on a wooden roller coaster, or take in a Friday summer concert or a Saturday evening fireworks display.
