Waldameer Park & Water World
220 Peninsula Dr, Erie, PA, 16505
Family-owned Waldameer Park & Water World is the fifth-oldest continuously operating amusement park in the US. Opened in 1896 at a popular picnic spot in Erie, its initial attractions were a beer garden, dance hall, and carousel. Today, this award-winning amusement and water park has 52 attractions ranging from waterslides and roller coasters to a wave pool and flying swings.
The basics
You have the option to visit either Waldameer Park or Water World, though a two-park admission pass offers a reduced combined rate. There’s also a pay-per-ride option, which is ideal for a short visit or if you’re visiting with children too short to ride most attractions. It may also come in handy on days when the forecast is rainy, as the park does not offer refunds or rainchecks for weather closures.
You’re free to come and go from each park as you please and return on the same day with your wristband. Some visitors opt to rent a cabana at the water park and visit the amusement park at their leisure. Concessions, restaurants, a gift shop, and games are all on-site, so guests of all ages will find a way to enjoy the experience.
Things to know before you go
You can bring outside food and beverages into the Waldameer Park picnic area.
You cannot bring outside food or beverages into the Water World areas.
Certified service animals are only permitted in Waldameer, not Water World.
Both parks have low sensory areas.
Waldameer Park & Water World is cashless in most areas.
Reserve a cabana far in advance (the company suggests even 90 days) to ensure you secure one.
How to get there
Waldameer Park & Water World is across the street from the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, where Peninsula Drive leads to Presque Isle State Park. Plenty of dedicated parking is available, though you could call a taxi or use a rideshare to access the water park. The park is 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from Erie International Airport and 5 miles (8 km) from downtown Erie.
When to get there
Waldameer Park & Water World is open seasonally, typically from May through August, though it’s occasionally open on select dates in April and September. Water World and Waldameer have different operating hours, which may change from day to day, so check ahead. Both parks see peak crowds in the middle of the summer and on weekends, so arrive early if you want to ride as much as possible.
Consider combining Waldameer with a beach day
Although Waldameer does have Water World, some families may want a more low-impact aquatic experience. The beaches of Presque Isle State Park start only 2 miles (3 kilometers) away. There is no admission fee to enter the state park or enjoy its beaches. With Waldameer’s same-day return admission policy, you can build a beach day into a thrilling trip to the amusement park.
