POINT OF INTEREST

White Water Walk

4330 River Road, Niagara Falls, ON, ON L2G 6T2

Descend via elevator to a 1,000-foot-long (305-meter-long) boardwalk along the Niagara River to see the swirling Class VI whitewater rapids up close. Information points along the boardwalk delve into the immense power of the river, as well as the geology and wildlife of the Niagara Gorge, while observation areas offer front-row views of nature’s power.

The Basics

The White Water Walk is accessed via an elevator that carries passengers down 229 feet (70 meters) to a boardwalk suspended near the frothy torrents of Niagara’s Whirlpool Rapids. The walkway is a popular stop on organized Niagara Falls day trips, which usually include other area attractions such as Hornblower cruises, Journey Behind the Falls, Skylon Tower, and even helicopter rides.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Hear the roar of the river’s powerful rapids at this exhilarating attraction.

  • The elevator, tunnel, and boardwalk are all wheelchair accessible, though the observation areas are not.

  • While visitors to the White Water Walk can get close to the rapids, it’s unlikely they’ll get wet.

How to Get There

White Water Walk is located just north of Whirlpool Bridge on the Ontario, Canada, side of the falls. It’s about a 7-minute walk from Niagara Falls train station. Alternatively, take the Wego green line bus to the White Water Walk stop.

When to Get There

The White Water Walk is typically open from April through mid-November, though adverse weather conditions can mean it opens later or closes earlier in the season. Summer is the busiest time; go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Other Ways to See the Niagara Rapids

The furious rapids that rush through the gorge showcase the power and intensity of the Niagara River. In addition to viewing the river from the White Water Walk, you can travel out over the rapids on the Whirlpool Aero Car, an antique cable car on the Canadian side of the river that’s been running since 1916.
