Woodland Park
1000 N 50th St., Seattle, Seattle, WA, 98103
A natural oasis in the middle of Seattle, Woodland Park encompasses manicured landscapes, walking paths, rose gardens, and a zoo. Home to diverse species of wildlife, Woodland Park Zoo is indisputably the park’s main attraction. Visitors can also enjoy outdoor recreation areas, picnic spots, and lakeside strolls.
The Basics
If you want to get active, Woodland Park is the place for you; there’s a network of walking and jogging trails; two soccer fields; lawn bowling; tennis courts; and a 9-hole golf course. You’ll also find an amphitheater on the banks of Green Lake, which comprises an entire side of the park. You can pair the park with other top Seattle attractions by purchasing a CityPass, which grants you free admission to Woodland Park Zoo and the iconic Space Needle.
Things to Know Before You Go
The park is a must-visit for animal lovers, gardeners, and recreation enthusiasts.
Personal photography is welcome, but a permit is needed for professional sessions.
While there is an admission fee to enter the zoo, the rest of the park is free.
Paved pathways make the park easy to navigate with a wheelchair or stroller.
How to Get There
The park is located 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of downtown Seattle. If traveling by car, take I-5 to exit 169 and follow NE 50th Street to the park. To reach the park by bus, take Metro Bus 5 to Phinney Avenue North and North 55th Street. There’s also free covered bike parking on site.
When to Get There
The park is open daily from 4:30am until 11:30pm. The zoo’s hours vary depending on the season; to see animals at their most active, the best time to visit is in the morning or evening. The rose garden is open from 7:30am until dusk; to see the roses in full bloom, visit from June through September.
The Woodland Park Rose Garden
The Woodland Park Rose Garden was established in 1924 and now boasts more than 3,000 roses across its 2.5 acres (1 hectare). The pesticide-free gardens are dedicated to natural gardening techniques that enrich the soil. Because pesticides are not used, the post-prime roses can be fed animals in the zoo. In addition to providing a beautiful place for a stroll or photo shoot, the gardens are available to rent for events such as weddings.
