Super 8 by Wyndham Council Bluffs We recently took a four-night mini vacation in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. The only low light of our trip was electing to stay at the Super 8. There were several reasons for this, that I thought you should know about. The overall cleanliness of the facility was extremely below standards: Upon arrival. -The stairway carpet leading to our room needed vacuuming. -There was something dried onto the outside of the room door. -The carpet was filthy and bathroom floor needed a good cleaning. -There was a red stain on top of the air conditioner. I don’t want to think what that came from. -The towels and bedding were stained to the point that we questioned if they had even been washed. -There were partially full beverages in the refrigerator. The interior of the refrigerator also needs to be wiped out. -There was a black plastic bag left laying on top of the bed. (For garbage?) Enough said about the cleanliness, there were also several operational issues that also made for an unpleasant experience with Super 8. No one informed us that there would be no maid service during our stay. We understand that our bedding didn’t require a daily change, but assumed there would be some basic services. Services like emptying the garbage left by a previous guest and changing out the stained towels. No one ever showed up, so we attempted to ask a staff member in the hallway. However, there was a language barrier and we didn’t come away with any better understanding of their procedures. Other concerns: -There was no operating exhaust fan in the bathroom. That probably explains why the ceiling paint was crumbling. -There were no safety/handicap bars in the bathroom or shower. -There were no towel racks of any kind in the bathroom. -There was no shelf or anyplace to leave a travel kit in the bathroom. -There is a hair dryer installed in the bathroom. Unfortunately, it was mounted directly above the only light switch, therefore you have to fight through the cord to operate the electrical switch. -The water in the sink was plumbed backwards, the cold water was on the left. The drain in the sink also needs to be addressed. It would take multiple minutes for the water to subside. -The two-sided tape holding the cable TV box was no longer attached. The box was simply being held up by the electrical cables. The local network news stations came in so poorly we could not get the local weather report. Apparently, management was aware of previous cable problems. There was an unattached cable box laying on top of the dresser. -There is an ice machine available for guests, however there were no plastic liners for the ice buckets to be found. -There were empty parking stalls right below our window. However, the door leading to the parking lot had been closed off by the on-site management. To park there a guest would have to walk around the building to get in. There was little or no designated place for the other guests to smoke. Their only option was to sit at the two park benches located within feet of the only operational entrance to the building. There were no convenient electrical outlets to charge our cell phones. To use the microwave, one has to unplug the in-room refrigerator. We did not have to use the alarm clock in the room. However, it would make strange clicking noises (not the alarm) in the middle of the night. After two days we ran out of coffee packets for the in-room coffee maker. When we asked at the desk, we were told they were out of regular coffee. They only had decaffeinated available. There is coffee available in the lobby for the continental breakfast. However, guests are prohibited from taking them to their rooms. Basically, we had a terrible experience staying at Super 8 and will likely never stay at one again.
