Located in a 19th-century, former cotton mill along the banks of the Tar River, this family-friendly eatery is known for its saucy Texas-style barbecue. A combo plate is the best way to try a little of everything: select from ribs, brisket, wings, smoked sausage and even eastern North Carolina-style pulled pork. The menu is lengthy and includes many Southern favorites, such as gumbo and fried catfish, plus steaks, lasagna, sandwiches, burgers and salads. Sample a bunch of the lip-smacking sides with a veggie plate. The macaroni and cheese, dense with cheesy goodness, is not to be missed.
